About

Trim a video to the part you need: set start and end on a live preview and export a WebM or MP4 clip without uploading the file.

How to use it

  1. 1Choose a video your browser can play.
  2. 2Set the start and end with the sliders, exact times or the current playhead.
  3. 3Preview the selection.
  4. 4Click Export — the clip is recorded in real time — then download it.
You give
MP4 (H.264), WebM, MOV and other formats your browser can play
You get
A WebM clip (or MP4 in browsers whose MediaRecorder supports it)
Good to know
The clip is re-encoded by the browser's MediaRecorder while it plays, so export takes as long as the clip and quality may be slightly lower than the original. The tab must stay visible. Some browsers can't capture the audio. Files the browser can't play (e.g. HEVC in some browsers, ProRes) can't be trimmed.

FAQ

Why does exporting take as long as the clip?

Without uploading to a server or downloading a 30 MB encoder, the only built-in way to create video is MediaRecorder, which records in real time. It's ideal for short clips.

Is the output MP4 or WebM?

WebM in Chrome and Firefox. Safari (and recent Chrome versions) can record MP4 — the tool only shows formats your browser supports.

Will it lose quality?

It re-encodes, so there's a small quality loss. Raise the Quality slider for a higher bitrate.
