About

Generate strong random passwords with your browser’s secure random generator. Set length and character sets, see entropy, or make hundreds at once.

How to use it

  1. 1A password is generated instantly. Press New for another.
  2. 2Set the length (16+ is a good default) and the character sets you need.
  3. 3Turn on “Exclude look-alikes” if the password will be read aloud or typed from paper.
  4. 4Copy it into your password manager, or bulk-generate a list.

Good to know
Entropy assumes the password is used exactly as generated. Editing it by hand lowers its strength. The crack-time estimate assumes a fast offline attack (10 billion guesses per second) and is a rough guide.

FAQ

Is it safe to generate passwords on a website?

This page uses crypto.getRandomValues, the same cryptographic source password managers use, and runs entirely in your browser. Nothing is transmitted or stored; only your option choices are remembered on this device.

How long should my password be?

For accounts protected by a password manager, 16–20 random characters (about 100+ bits) is plenty. For a master password you must remember, a 6-word passphrase is easier and similarly strong.

What is “unbiased sampling”?

Simple generators use random % N, which makes some characters slightly more likely. We discard random values that would cause that bias (rejection sampling), so every character is equally likely.
