FAQ

Should I use UUID v4 or v7?

v4 for general unique IDs. v7 for database primary keys: they sort by creation time, so indexes stay compact and inserts are faster.

Can two generated UUIDs collide?

Practically never. v4 has 122 random bits — you'd need to create billions per second for decades to expect a duplicate.

Is a GUID the same as a UUID?

Yes. GUID is Microsoft's name for the same 128-bit format; use the {braces} and uppercase options to match Windows-style GUIDs.
