What it does

This skill guides an AI agent through planning a video game. It reads a game concept document, works out the individual systems the game needs (such as inventory, combat or progression), including the hidden systems each one implies, and records which systems depend on which. It then ranks them into a suggested design order and writes a systems index file. Work is collaborative: the agent asks the user to confirm the system list, dependencies, priorities and file writes before continuing.

Great for

  • Game designers starting a new project who want a structured list of systems before writing detailed design documents
  • Solo developers planning scope who want to see hidden systems that a concept doc does not mention
  • Teams using the Claude Code Game Studios template who need the systems index that the design-system skill depends on

Skip it if

  • Projects that do not have a written game concept file yet, because the skill stops and asks you to run /brainstorm first
  • Non-game software, since the workflow and templates assume game design documents
  • Users who want fully automatic output without review, because the workflow is built around repeated approval questions

Try asking

  • “/map-systems”
  • “/map-systems next”
  • “/map-systems --review lean”
  • “/map-systems combat-system”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Map SystemsInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    map-systems.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip map-systems.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip map-systems.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Run /brainstorm first so the concept document exists, and keep your game pillars file up to date since the skill uses it to set priority.
  • Choose a review level with --review (full, lean or solo) depending on how much you want to be asked during the process.
  • Re-run the skill later to update an existing index rather than starting over; it resumes from the saved state.
