What it does

Once installed, the agent can turn a game's design documents into a checklist of visual assets (characters, enemies, buildings, UI screens, VFX) and then write a detailed spec for each one, including text prompts you could feed to an AI image generator. It reads the project's art bible and game design docs first, so specs stay consistent with the existing visual rules. The skill only produces prompt text; it does not call an image API in the material shown.

Great for

  • Game teams using the Claude Code Game Studios setup who need specs for many visual assets
  • Solo indie developers who want consistent art direction written down before commissioning or generating art
  • Art leads who want a structured inventory of everything the game needs visually

Skip it if

  • Projects without a game design document or art bible, since the skill is designed to fail or redirect when those are missing and its output is anchored to them
  • Anyone expecting finished images: it writes prompts and specs, not artwork
  • Teams that have not reviewed generated prompts, since AI image output can drift from the intended style without human checking

Try asking

  • “/asset-spec system:combat to write visual specs for the combat system's assets”
  • “/asset-spec character:hero-knight to generate a spec and image prompt for the knight”
  • “/asset-spec with no arguments to build an entity inventory from my GDDs and work through it”
  • “/asset-spec level:forest-ruins --review full to get art director and technical artist review”

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    asset-spec.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip asset-spec.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip asset-spec.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Create the art bible with the art-bible skill before running this one, otherwise the skill will stop and ask you to do so.
  • Review the generated entity inventory before approving it, since the skill asks you to confirm what is missing or unneeded.
  • Use --review full for important assets so both the art director and technical artist check the specs.
