About

Check a video's duration, resolution, aspect ratio, bitrate, codecs, frame rate, audio track and creation date — reading only the file header.

How to use it

  1. 1Choose a video file.
  2. 2Read the summary: duration, resolution, bitrate and size.
  3. 3See per-track codec, frame rate and audio details for MP4/MOV files.
  4. 4Copy everything as JSON.
You give
MP4, MOV, M4V, 3GP (full details); WebM, MKV and others (basic details)
You get
A metadata table and JSON
Good to know
Codec, frame rate and creation date come from our MP4/MOV header parser; WebM/MKV show only what the browser exposes. Bitrate is the file average (size ÷ duration). Audio detection for non-MP4 files depends on the browser. Creation dates are whatever the recording device wrote.

FAQ

Does it upload or fully load my video?

No. It reads only the small header boxes from the file on your device, so even multi-GB files are analysed in a moment.

What does “fast start” mean?

The metadata is at the beginning of the file, so the video can start playing on the web before it fully downloads. Look for “yes” before publishing.

Why is the frame rate shown as 29.97?

Many cameras record NTSC rates (29.97 or 59.94 fps). The value is calculated from the frame count and duration in the file.
