What it does

TaskFlow is a substrate for building long-running jobs that span several detached tasks (such as sub-agent or ACP runs) while still behaving like one job with a single owner session. It tracks the flow's identity, current step, small persisted state, waiting status, linked child tasks, and revision numbers so updates are conflict-safe and the job can survive restarts. It deliberately does not contain branching or business logic; that stays in the calling code or an authoring layer such as Lobster or ACPX.

Great for

  • Plugin or tool developers building multi-step background workflows for an agent
  • Teams orchestrating detached sub-agent or ACP tasks that must report back to one owner
  • Builders who need durable waiting state (for example, waiting on a Slack reply) and resumable steps

Skip it if

  • Simple one-shot prompts or single tasks that don't need persisted state or resumption (the overhead isn't useful)
  • Non-developers looking for a ready-made end-user automation; the skill is an API reference for code that runs against a specific plugin runtime

Try asking

  • “Build a plugin workflow that triages an inbox in the background and waits for a reply before finalizing”
  • “Create a managed flow that runs a classifier sub-agent as a linked child task and summarizes results to the owner”
  • “Add resumable waiting state to a multi-step PR intake process”

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    taskflow.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip taskflow.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip taskflow.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Read the SKILL.md API reference carefully: every mutation after creation needs the latest flow.revision, and stale revisions are rejected.
  • Keep conditional logic in your own code or authoring layer and use TaskFlow only for state and task linkage.
  • Store only the minimum state needed to resume, and use blockedSummary or waitJson for human-readable wait reasons.
