What it does
This skill teaches the agent to control Spotify through command-line tools on your computer. Once installed, the agent can search for songs, start or pause playback, skip tracks, list and switch playback devices, and check what is currently playing. It prefers the spogo tool and falls back to spotify_player if spogo is not available.
Great for
- Spotify Premium users who want to control music by typing requests to their agent
- Developers or terminal users who already use spogo or spotify_player
- People who want hands-free music control while working in a terminal
Skip it if
- Users without a Spotify Premium account, since the skill's requirements list Premium as needed
- Anyone uncomfortable with importing browser cookies, because the setup step pulls login cookies from a browser into a local tool; the files do not explain how those cookies are stored or protected
- Users on systems where Homebrew is unavailable, since the install steps are written for brew
Try asking
- “Search Spotify for a song by a specific artist and play the top result”
- “Pause the music and skip to the next track”
- “Show me which Spotify devices are available and switch playback to my speaker”
- “What is currently playing on Spotify?”

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Install spogo first, since the skill treats it as the preferred tool, and confirm it works with spogo status before asking for playback changes
- Name the device exactly as Spotify shows it when switching playback, or use the device ID
- Use the TUI help key ? inside spotify_player if you want to learn its shortcuts yourself
