What it does
This skill teaches an AI agent to use the mcporter command-line tool, which talks to MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers. MCP servers expose tools such as issue trackers or web scrapers, and mcporter lets the agent list those tools, check their inputs, call them over HTTP or local stdio, handle OAuth login, edit a config file, and generate CLI or TypeScript wrappers. Without the skill, the agent would not know mcporter's commands or syntax.
Great for
- Developers who already run or use MCP servers and want an agent to call their tools directly
- Engineers building CLI or TypeScript wrappers around MCP servers
- Teams testing MCP tools from a terminal before wiring them into an app
Skip it if
- People who do not use MCP servers or the mcporter tool, since the skill only documents that CLI (it does not install or set up the servers themselves)
- Use against production servers with write actions (such as creating issues) without reviewing the call first, because the agent can make changes that the server then applies
Try asking
- “List the tools available on my linear MCP server and show the input schema for list_issues”
- “Call the create_issue tool on linear with title 'Login bug' and team ENG”
- “Authenticate with the OAuth flow for my MCP server and reset the old token first”
- “Generate TypeScript client types for the scrape server”

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Start with mcporter list and --schema so the agent checks the exact tool arguments before calling anything that changes data.
- Use --output json when the agent needs to parse results.
- Keep the config file at ./config/mcporter.json in mind, or pass --config to point at another one, and review any config edits before they run.
