What it does
When you ask the agent to learn from something, it reads a project folder, a web page, your pasted notes, or the steps you just completed, then writes a new reusable skill file (a SKILL.md) that teaches the agent that procedure next time. It can also update an existing skill with new lessons instead of rewriting it. It works using only the agent's built-in file reading, searching, web fetching and writing tools, with no extra engine.
Great for
- Developers who want to capture a repeated setup or workflow so the agent can repeat it later
- Maintainers of a NanoClaw skill library who want new skills written to the project's house guidelines
- Anyone who wants to turn a messy troubleshooting session into a checklist with the gotchas recorded
Skip it if
- Finding and installing existing community skills from a registry, since this skill only creates or refines skills (the description says so explicitly)
- Sources you do not trust: web pages or pasted text can shape the instructions the agent saves and later follows, so review the generated file before relying on it
Try asking
- “/learn ./services/billing to build a skill for working with that code”
- “/learn https://example.com/api-docs to create a usage skill from the docs”
- “/learn what we just did”
- “update the deploy-staging skill with the fixes we found today”

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Review the generated SKILL.md before committing it, especially when the source was a URL or pasted text.
- Name the existing skill when refining so the agent updates it in place rather than creating a near-duplicate.
- Make the gotchas explicit in the conversation; the skill's own guidance says these are the most valuable part.
