What it does

This skill teaches an AI agent how to handle web pages as sources for an Obsidian-style wiki. For a web address, it only writes a plan and does not fetch the page, since network cleaning is not enabled in this package. For a local HTML or Markdown file the user already has, it copies the original bytes into a protected raw-storage folder inside the vault, using a reviewed preview-then-apply process, without rendering or running the file.

Great for

  • Users building a personal Obsidian wiki who want to keep source files as unchanged records
  • People who want a safety-first, reviewable workflow before any web content is pulled into notes
  • Developers evaluating how agents can handle external content without silent network access

Skip it if

  • Anyone expecting the skill to automatically download and clean a web page now, because network extraction is explicitly unavailable until an enforcing adapter is verified
  • Users wanting high-quality text extraction or token savings, since the skill does not claim or provide them
  • Sensitive or private content handled with unreviewed URLs, because approval is required for each destination and the skill still depends on external tools that may fetch extra resources

Try asking

  • “Plan a readable capture of https://example.com/article without fetching it yet”
  • “Save this local file inbox/source.md into my wiki's raw capture storage”
  • “Check whether a Defuddle executable is available for my vault using the contracts verify command”
  • “Prepare this downloaded HTML page for later wiki ingestion as a retained source”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Defuddle Web Capture PlannerInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    defuddle.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip defuddle.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip defuddle.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Start with the dry-run capture plan and review the approved_plan_sha256 before applying any change
  • Place local files in the vault inbox first and keep operation IDs so changes can be audited
  • Treat any 'configured' Defuddle status as unverified and do not rely on it for extraction quality
