What it does

When you explicitly ask, the agent files a chosen answer, decision, or summary from the current chat into your Obsidian notes vault as a new or updated note. It searches for existing notes first, proposes a preview of every file it will change, and only writes after you approve. It is designed to save only what you select, never the whole conversation by default.

Great for

  • People who keep a personal knowledge base in Obsidian and want useful chat results filed in it
  • Researchers or students who want to preserve a specific analysis with its index and log updated consistently
  • Developers maintaining a claude-obsidian style vault who need reviewed, hash-checked writes

Skip it if

  • Automatically archiving every conversation, since the skill forbids automatic or whole-transcript saves by design
  • Ingesting a file or URL into the vault, which the skill says must go through a separate operation; sensitive chat content may also be preserved if you select it, so review before approving

Try asking

  • “Save this answer about our Q3 pricing decision to my vault as a decision note”
  • “File this conversation's analysis of the reading list as a question note”
  • “Keep this insight about spaced repetition in my wiki”
  • “/save the summary from this session”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Save Conversation to ObsidianInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    save.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip save.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip save.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Name exactly what to save and where, so the agent does not have to infer scope
  • Read the inspect preview carefully, especially the changed paths and create versus replace modes, before approving
  • Keep the hot cache and log in mind: each save also updates wiki/log.md and wiki/hot.md
