What it does

This skill teaches an AI agent to link automated Playwright browser tests with TestRail, a popular test management tool where teams store test cases and track results. Once installed, the agent can import TestRail cases and generate matching Playwright test files, create test runs, push pass/fail results back to TestRail, check which cases are linked to code, and update case steps from test code. It depends on TestRail MCP tools that must be enabled separately, and on TestRail credentials set as environment variables.

Great for

  • QA engineers who keep manual or regression test cases in TestRail and want automated Playwright coverage
  • Development teams that report test results to TestRail after each CI or local run
  • Teams auditing which TestRail cases have no automated test yet

Skip it if

  • Teams that do not use TestRail (the skill is specific to its API and tools)
  • Anyone who expects it to work immediately after install: the file says the TestRail MCP server is not auto-registered and must be enabled manually, otherwise commands fail with 'tool not found'
  • Users who cannot safely hand a TestRail API key to an agent: the skill writes to a shared test management system, so an agent error could overwrite cases or results

Try asking

  • “Import the test cases from TestRail project 12, suite 4 and generate Playwright tests grouped by section”
  • “Run the Playwright suite and push the pass/fail results to TestRail run 981”
  • “Create a TestRail run named 'Sprint 42 Regression' in project 12 and list its case IDs”
  • “Show me how many TestRail cases are not yet linked to a Playwright test”

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    testrail.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip testrail.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip testrail.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Verify the testrail_* MCP tools appear before running any command, and enable the server following the plugin's CLAUDE.md instructions
  • Use a dedicated TestRail API user with limited permissions and a scoped key rather than a personal admin key
  • Review generated test files and any updates to TestRail cases before accepting them, since the skill writes to shared data
