What it does

When you ask the agent to cut a release, this skill makes it first inspect your project (version files, CI workflows, test commands, changelog style, and how packages are published) and save those findings to a file called .omc/RELEASE_RULE.md so later releases are faster. It then walks you through choosing a version number, running a pre-release checklist, drafting release notes, and executing the commit, tag and push steps, with CI or a manual publish command taking it from there.

Great for

  • Maintainers of npm, PyPI, Cargo or Docker projects who release irregularly and want a checklist
  • Teams with an existing CI release pipeline who want the agent to follow its conventions
  • Solo developers who want help drafting changelogs from git history

Skip it if

  • Projects where releases need sign-off from a formal process: the skill runs git commit, tag and push steps itself, so review the plan before confirming, since a wrong tag or push can be hard to undo
  • Repos with no tests or CI: the skill can only guide these, and it may offer to scaffold a workflow file you have not reviewed

Try asking

  • “/oh-my-claudecode:release minor”
  • “Analyze this repo's release rules and tell me what publishes on tag push”
  • “/oh-my-claudecode:release 2.4.0 --refresh”
  • “Draft release notes for the next version from commits since the last tag”

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    release.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip release.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip release.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Run with --refresh after changing CI workflows so the cached rules stay accurate.
  • Review the proposed version bump, commit message and tag before confirming the push step.
  • Check .omc/RELEASE_RULE.md into your repo or add it to .gitignore deliberately, depending on whether you want the rules shared.
