What it does

This skill helps an AI agent plan work when the goal itself is still unclear. Instead of jumping to building, the agent charts the unknowns as a set of decision tickets on the repo's issue tracker, works through them one session at a time, and asks you to confirm the destination and the chart. When the path is clear, it hands the settled decisions to a separate delivery skill. It produces decisions, not code or documents.

Great for

  • Developers starting a vague feature or spec who need the open questions organised before building
  • Teams that track decisions in a repo issue tracker and want them visible to humans and later agent sessions
  • People who want an agent to ask them questions rather than guess the answers

Skip it if

  • Clear, well-defined tasks that can go straight to building; the skill itself says no map is needed then and sends you to the launch skill
  • Setups without a repo issue tracker, since the file says the tracker is the only map medium and the skill stops if it is unreachable
  • Work where the agent is expected to answer its own questions; the skill treats that as a broken process, so it is not useful for fully autonomous decision-making

Try asking

  • “Use ask-navigator to chart this loose idea for adding offline sync into a map of decisions”
  • “Continue the open map for this repo and work the next ready ticket”
  • “Here are my residual questions from the launch fog gate; chart them with ask-navigator”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Ask NavigatorInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    ask-navigator.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip ask-navigator.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip ask-navigator.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Expect the agent to pause for your confirmation of the destination and the chart; those decisions are yours, not the agent's.
  • Run it on a repo where drydock has already recorded the issue tracker, so the agent does not need to ask where to put the map.
  • Check the created navigator:map issue and its child tickets on the tracker rather than looking for local files.
