What it does

It is a writing style rule for the agent's chat replies, progress reports and handoff notes. When installed, the agent cuts filler words, pleasantries, hedging and narration of tool calls, puts the conclusion first, and ends on the next step. It is designed to never alter code, commands, file paths, exact error messages, numbers or words like not/never, and it switches back to full plain prose for security warnings or multi-step instructions where shortening could cause confusion.

Great for

  • Developers who find agent replies wordy and want quicker answers while watching long coding sessions
  • People reviewing many status reports who want the result and the evidence up front
  • Teams that want consistent, terse reporting from an agent

Skip it if

  • Readers who need full explanations or a teaching tone, since compressed replies omit context by design
  • Artifacts such as commit messages, docs or tickets, which the skill explicitly excludes in favour of other skills
  • Non-English speakers expecting a language change: the skill keeps the user's language and only compresses style

Try asking

  • “Keep your status updates short while you fix this failing test suite”
  • “Report back on the migration with the result first and the next command last”
  • “Write a session-close note that says what shipped and where the evidence is”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Minimal Prose DisciplineInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    minimal-prose-discipline.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip minimal-prose-discipline.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip minimal-prose-discipline.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Ask for a fuller explanation when you need detail; the skill is a default style, not a hard limit
  • The skill references sibling skills (minimal-code-discipline, agent-doc-discipline) and a yard document-language contract that are not included in this folder, so behaviour depends on those being present in your setup
  • Check that error messages and commands in replies are quoted exactly, since the skill relies on the agent following its protected-core rule
