What it does

This is an internal default skill for the Hive agent framework's worker agents. It tells the agent to pause every set number of iterations and ask itself five questions: is it still on the goal, is it cutting corners, is it repeating itself, does it contradict earlier decisions, and has it dropped any items. If the answers show degradation, the agent logs the assessment, re-reads its working notes, and explicitly changes approach; otherwise it writes a brief note. The aim is to catch quality problems before a separate judge component does.

Great for

  • Developers building long-running multi-step agents in the Hive framework who want built-in self-checks
  • Teams debugging agents that drift off task or silently skip items over many iterations

Skip it if

  • Single-turn chat or short tasks, where the periodic overhead adds nothing (the check only matters over many iterations)
  • Anyone expecting an objective quality guarantee: the agent grades its own output, so it can miss errors it cannot see

Try asking

  • “Used automatically by a Hive worker agent running a long research or data-processing loop”
  • “A developer asks their Hive agent to keep track of all 50 items in a batch and flag any it skipped”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Quality Self-Assessment MonitorInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the Apache-2.0 licence and an attribution note.

    quality-monitor.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip quality-monitor.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip quality-monitor.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Set the assessment interval sensibly; too frequent checks add token cost, too rare checks miss drift
  • Review the _quality_log entries to see whether the agent's self-assessments are honest or always report acceptable
