What it does

This skill is an internal operating procedure for worker agents in a multi-agent setup. When a worker agent is started with a spawn message containing a db_path field, the skill tells it how to use a SQLite database as a shared task queue: claim a task, load its step plan, mark steps in progress and done with evidence, check required quality gates (SOP checklist) before finishing, and mark the task done or failed. It is not a general-purpose capability like writing or design; it coordinates work between agents.

Great for

  • Developers building multi-agent systems in the Hive framework who need workers to share a task queue safely
  • Engineers debugging or extending how worker agents track progress and enforce required checklists
  • Teams who want an audit trail of which steps were completed and why

Skip it if

  • Individual users wanting a general assistant skill: it only activates when a spawn message contains db_path and colony_id, and it is meaningless outside that setup
  • Projects where workers should be allowed to delete or restructure data: the skill forbids DELETE and DDL, and a misconfigured database could be corrupted if agents ignore these rules

Try asking

  • “Worker agent receives a spawn message with db_path and task_id, claims that task and works through its steps”
  • “Generic worker with no assigned task pulls the next pending task from a shared queue”
  • “Worker checks required SOP gates before marking a task done so it cannot skip mandatory steps”
  • “Operator queries queue health to see how many tasks are pending, claimed, done or failed”

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the Apache-2.0 licence and an attribution note.

    colony-progress-tracker.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip colony-progress-tracker.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip colony-progress-tracker.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Install this only as part of a Hive colony setup; the queen agent is expected to create and populate the tasks, steps and sop_checklist tables
  • Make sure workers have a unique worker_id and that the stale-claim timeout (about 15 minutes) suits your task durations
  • Review the database path and permissions, since the skill runs sqlite3 commands that write to a shared file
