What it does
With this skill installed, the agent can work with Google Docs in your Google Workspace account by running the gws command-line tool. It can read a document's latest contents, create a blank document with a title, append text to a document, or apply batch edits to a document. Before acting, it is pointed to the shared gws setup for sign-in and safety rules, and it can look up the exact inputs each Google Docs operation needs.
Great for
- People who already use the gws CLI and want their agent to draft or update Google Docs
- Developers automating document creation or text insertion in Google Workspace
- Teams who want an agent to pull the current text of a Google Doc for summarising or review
Skip it if
- Anyone without a Google Workspace account and the gws tool set up, since the skill cannot work without them
- Situations where a document must not be changed by automation, because batchUpdate applies edits directly and an agent could overwrite content if given a loose instruction
Try asking
- “Read the latest version of my project brief Google Doc and summarise the open questions.”
- “Create a new blank Google Doc titled 'Q3 Planning Notes'.”
- “Append a section with today's meeting action items to the end of my team's running notes doc.”
- “Show me the parameters needed to apply a batch update to a Google Doc.”

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Run 'gws docs --help' or 'gws schema docs.<resource>.<method>' first so the agent builds correct flags rather than guessing.
- Be specific about which document and which change you want, and ask the agent to confirm before any batchUpdate that alters existing content.
- Run 'gws generate-skills' if the shared gws-shared SKILL.md file is missing, so the auth and security rules are available.
