What it does
Once installed, the agent knows how to work with Google Calendar through the gws command-line tool. It can look at upcoming events across calendars, create new events, check free/busy times, and manage calendar settings, sharing rules and secondary calendars. Before acting, it is told to look up each command's required parameters so it builds valid requests.
Great for
- People who want an AI assistant to read or update their Google Calendar from a chat or terminal
- Developers automating scheduling tasks that already use the gws CLI
- Admins who manage calendar access rules and secondary calendars for a Google Workspace account
Skip it if
- Destructive changes without review: the skill exposes delete and clear operations (e.g. calendars.clear wipes all events on a primary calendar), which can cause irreversible data loss if the agent acts on a wrong instruction
- Anyone without a configured gws install and Google account authentication, since the skill cannot work on its own
- Service-account-only setups: the file warns that a service account becomes the data owner of created calendars, which can cause unexpected behaviour
Try asking
- “What meetings do I have tomorrow across all my calendars?”
- “Create a 30-minute event called Project sync with Sam next Tuesday at 2pm”
- “Find a free slot this week when Alex and I are both available”
- “List the calendars on my calendar list and show their access rules”

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Ask the agent to run the schema lookup first and show the planned command before any delete or clear action
- Name the calendar and time zone explicitly when creating events to avoid scheduling mistakes
- Run gws generate-skills if the shared authentication skill is missing
