What it does

When installed, the agent approaches building or restyling a user interface like a design studio: it first works out what the product is and who it is for, then makes deliberate choices about colour, typography, layout and motion that suit that subject. It actively avoids common AI-generated looks, such as identical rounded cards, cream-and-terracotta palettes, or decorative numbered labels, and it plans and reviews its design before writing code.

Great for

  • Developers who want landing pages or app UIs that do not look like default templates
  • Designers using an agent to explore visual directions quickly
  • Anyone asking an agent to redesign an existing interface with more personality

Skip it if

  • Projects with a strict existing brand guide, where the skill's push for distinctive choices could conflict with the brand (the brief's own instructions are meant to win, but review the output)
  • Quick throwaway prototypes where visual polish is not important, since the planning process adds time
  • Non-web visual work such as print or slide design, which the guidance does not cover

Try asking

  • “Design a landing page for a small coffee roaster that feels specific to their brand”
  • “Redesign our SaaS dashboard so it does not look like a generic template”
  • “Build a mobile-friendly onboarding screen for a children's reading app with a distinct typographic style”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Frontend DesignInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 2 original files, the Apache-2.0 licence and an attribution note.

    frontend-design.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip frontend-design.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip frontend-design.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Give the agent a clear brief: the product, audience, and primary job of the page, since the skill relies on subject matter for visual choices.
  • Name any colours, fonts or existing brand assets you want respected, because the brief's wording takes priority over the skill's defaults.
  • Ask the agent to show its design plan and palette before writing code so you can steer it early.
