What it does

This skill lets your AI assistant check whether it can read your iMessage history on a Mac, and review who is allowed to send it messages. It runs a simple file-listing check to see if macOS Full Disk Access is granted, reads an access settings file, and then tells you the current state and a concrete next step. It also steers you toward an allowlist of trusted contacts rather than auto-pairing unknown senders.

Great for

  • Mac users who have just connected iMessage to Claude and want to confirm it works
  • People who want to check or change which contacts can text their assistant
  • Anyone whose texts are not reaching the assistant and wants to know why

Skip it if

  • Non-Mac users, since it depends on macOS paths and Full Disk Access (it will not work on Windows or Linux)
  • Shared or work Macs where others' personal messages could be exposed to the assistant, because it reads the full personal message database
  • Anyone wanting to change access without understanding that granting Full Disk Access gives the assistant broad read access to all messages

Try asking

  • “How do I set up iMessage for my assistant?”
  • “Who can reach me through this iMessage channel?”
  • “Why aren't my texts reaching the assistant?”
  • “Check my iMessage access policy and show me the allowed senders.”

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the Apache-2.0 licence and an attribution note.

    configure.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip configure.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip configure.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Grant Full Disk Access only to the app you trust, and review the allowlist regularly.
  • Keep the policy on allowlist; pairing auto-replies to every contact who texts the Mac.
  • Self-chat (texting yourself from any device on your Apple ID) always works, so use it to test the setup.
