What it does
When you run the /si:extract command or ask the agent to package a solution it has learned, this skill guides it to turn that solution into a standalone skill folder with a SKILL.md, a README and example notes. The result can be copied into other projects, so the same fix does not need to be rediscovered each time. The skill itself is written as instructions; it describes an extraction workflow that delegates file creation to a separate skill-extractor agent.
Great for
- Developers who keep solving the same environment or build problem across several projects
- Teams who want to capture debugging know-how as shareable skill folders
- Users of the self-improving-agent setup who already keep memory notes
Skip it if
- One-off fixes tied to a single codebase, since the skill is meant for broadly applicable patterns and the output may be project-specific if not reviewed
- Unverified solutions: the generated skill copies whatever the agent believes works, so an incorrect fix would be packaged and reused
Try asking
- “/si:extract "Fix for Docker builds failing on Apple Silicon with platform mismatch"”
- “/si:extract "Always regenerate TypeScript API client after modifying OpenAPI spec" --name api-client-regen”
- “/si:extract <pattern> --dry-run to preview the skill before any files are written”
Install in 3 steps

Download the skill

Add it to your agent
Claude Code (all projects)
mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip extract.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)
mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip extract.zip -d .claude/skills/Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Review the generated SKILL.md and remove any project-specific paths, URLs or credentials before sharing it
- Use --dry-run first to check the planned name and content
- Check that the skill name avoids the reserved words claude and anthropic, and that the description includes clear trigger conditions
