What it does
Once installed, the agent can look up US city crime statistics from public sources such as FBI data, city police portals, and crime-rate websites, then report rates per 100,000 residents, year-over-year trends, recent incidents, and comparisons between cities. It defaults to a home city you configure, names the source and data year for each figure, and saves dated results so later runs can compare against them. It also warns about known data problems, such as sources that disagree with each other and FBI figures that lag by months.
Great for
- People who want to check crime rates or trends for their own city or a city they are moving to
- Researchers or journalists comparing public crime figures across US cities, who will verify sources themselves
- Anyone who wants a sourced, caveated summary rather than a single unexplained number
Skip it if
- Investigating individual people: the skill's description says it is not for people investigations, and its anti-criteria forbid recording names of people arrested or involved in incidents, so it should not be used for OSINT on individuals.
- Cities outside the US or fine-grained neighborhood safety decisions, since the sources are US-focused and rates for small areas can swing widely.
- Safety-critical decisions such as where to live or travel based on incomplete incident feeds, because SpotCrime and portal data are partial and absence of data is not absence of crime.
Try asking
- “How safe is Springfield right now? Give me the violent and property crime rates.”
- “Compare my home city with its neighboring cities on crime rate and year-over-year trend.”
- “Show recent police incidents in my default city from the past week.”
- “Has crime been increasing in Austin, TX over the last few years?”

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Complete Setup.md first and fill in Config.md so the skill targets your city instead of asking every time.
- Always name the city and state, since many US cities share names across states.
- Check the data year and source on every figure, and compare sources cautiously because their baselines differ by 10-40%.
