What it does

This skill is for migrating or refactoring an existing software project. Instead of the agent re-scanning every file on each step, it walks the project once and writes a summary (file list, languages, imports, detected framework, components, and routes) into a folder the other steps can read. The agent then works from that snapshot until the project is re-imported. The skill is part of a larger workflow inside the open-design project and describes its own behaviour as skipping dependency and build folders and stopping after a time budget.

Great for

  • Developers planning a migration of an existing web app to a different framework or styling system
  • Teams who want an AI agent to map out a large repository before proposing changes
  • People running multi-step code-migration workflows in the open-design tool

Skip it if

  • Small one-off scripts where a full repository snapshot adds no value
  • Repositories you do not want read by an AI agent, since the walk indexes source file paths and contents such as imports
  • Projects where the snapshot could go stale quickly, because the agent trusts it until a manual re-import

Try asking

  • “Import my React repo and map its components and routes before we move to Vite”
  • “Scan this project and tell me which framework and styling system it uses”
  • “Build a snapshot of this monorepo so the next migration steps can use it”

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 2 original files, the Apache-2.0 licence and an attribution note.

    code-import.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip code-import.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip code-import.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Re-run the import after significant changes, since the agent will not detect edits on its own
  • For very large monorepos, be aware the walk has a default 60-second budget and may record skipped areas
  • Review the generated index before relying on framework detection, which needs config-file evidence to be reliable
