What it does

Once installed, the agent can help an operations leader work out how many people a support, CX, BizOps or IT ops team needs. It uses Erlang-C queueing maths, demand percentiles (P50/P90/P99), shrinkage adjustments and utilization thresholds to estimate SLA breach risk and flag when a team is overloaded. It can also sequence a 12-month hiring plan that accounts for ramp time, attrition and when to add a manager. The SKILL.md describes the three bundled Python scripts as deterministic and stdlib-only, with no LLM calls inside them.

Great for

  • Heads of Support, CX or VP Ops preparing an annual or quarterly headcount budget
  • Ops leaders whose SLA is slipping at roughly 80–90% utilization and need to diagnose sizing versus process problems
  • Finance or BizOps leads who need numbers to defend a headcount request

Skip it if

  • Engineering teams sizing developer capacity: the skill says to use vpe-advisor for DORA and cycle-time metrics instead
  • Strategic multi-year workforce planning: the skill points to chro-advisor for that
  • Project-style or non-queued work, which the skill's assumptions say does not fit its model

Try asking

  • “Use capacity-planner to size our support team for Q3 given this month's ticket P50/P90/P99 volumes and a 60-minute SLA.”
  • “Run the utilization analyzer on this team roster and tell me whether we are overloaded or unbalanced.”
  • “Build a 12-month hiring sequence for going from 15 to 30 support agents with 30% attrition.”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Ops Capacity PlannerInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 8 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    capacity-planner.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip capacity-planner.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip capacity-planner.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Supply real P50/P90/P99 demand distributions rather than averages; the skill treats single-point estimates as the costliest mistake.
  • Choose the correct --profile (support, cx, bizops, finance-ops, it-ops) because shrinkage and SLA defaults differ by function.
  • Run the bundled --sample first to see the expected input and output shape before feeding in your own data.
