What it does

Once installed, the agent helps you develop fiction from material you already have, such as a sentence, a folder of notes, or a half-written chapter. It works through a set of storytelling frameworks (character, plot, theme, world, and so on) and proposes pieces for you to accept, change, or reject, labelling whether each came from your notes or is a new suggestion. It can keep a story bible for each book and draft chapters only from that confirmed bible.

Great for

  • Novelists or short-story writers who have a premise or notes but are stuck on structure or character
  • Writers planning a series who want a persistent story bible across sessions
  • Writers who want help exploring ideas without the agent taking over the story

Skip it if

  • Summarising real events, articles or non-fiction (the skill excludes factual summaries)
  • Pure voice audits or AI-pattern cleanup of non-fiction text, which belong to a separate writing skill
  • Anyone wanting the agent to write a finished story for them to submit as their own, since the skill is designed to augment rather than substitute for the writer

Try asking

  • “I have notes for a story about a lighthouse keeper. Interview me and help me layer the plot.”
  • “Build a story bible for my novel from the chapters I've already written.”
  • “I'm stuck on my villain's motivation. Brainstorm a few options from my notes.”
  • “Revise the chapter I drafted and polish the dialogue without changing my voice.”
Step-by-step guide: how to use WriteStory Fiction ScaffoldingInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

    WriteStory.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip WriteStory.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip WriteStory.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Start with the Interview intent and give it your raw notes so the spine is built from your material.
  • Review each proposed layer and say when you redirect it; your word overrides the skill's suggestion.
  • Run the Setup steps before relying on the voice-quality tools, and check the scripts before running them since they execute on your machine.
