What it does

This skill makes the agent act like a careful employment-law checklist before you hire someone as a contractor, temp, vendor or employee. It asks how the proposed work will actually run (who sets hours, tools, location, control and exclusivity), applies the classification tests for the relevant jurisdiction, and flags where the intended label does not match the facts. It is designed only for arrangements that have not started yet; if work is already under way, it stops and routes the matter to counsel instead.

Great for

  • In-house HR or legal teams planning a new contractor, temp or vendor engagement before signing
  • Managers who want to know whether a proposed role should be an employee or a contractor before posting it
  • Employment lawyers who want a structured first-pass checklist on a prospective arrangement

Skip it if

  • Workers who are already engaged: the skill refuses to analyse existing arrangements, because back-pay and penalty exposure needs a privileged, counsel-led review
  • Final legal advice: the SKILL.md says it teaches the reasoning pattern and does not itself state the law, so jurisdiction-specific tests must come from current research and counsel
  • Users outside the configured jurisdictions or without the plugin's CLAUDE.md config, since the skill relies on that file for jurisdictional footprint and escalation rules

Try asking

  • “We want to bring on a data scientist for 6 months in our SF office using our tools and embedded in the analytics team. How should we classify them?”
  • “Is our recruiter contractor arrangement okay? She works only for us, sets her own hours and uses her own laptop.”
  • “Is this a vendor or a temp? We are looking at a staffing agency arrangement for three months.”
  • “/worker-classification (then describe the arrangement when prompted)”

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Describe the arrangement in concrete terms: hours, location, tools, exclusivity, duration, pay structure and who supervises the work, since the tests turn on these facts.
  • Confirm the start date has not passed; if work has begun, expect the skill to stop and escalate rather than produce a classification.
  • Treat the output as a planning checklist to take to employment counsel, not as a final determination, especially in strict-test jurisdictions like California.
