What it does

Once installed, the agent can answer questions like what the weather is in a city right now or what tomorrow's forecast looks like. It fetches data from free public weather services (wttr.in and Open-Meteo) by running curl commands, and it is instructed to confirm which city it matched (country, region, population) and to state the observation time, so it is less likely to report the weather for a wrongly matched place. It is especially careful with Chinese and other non-Latin city names.

Great for

  • Anyone who wants quick current conditions or a short forecast from an AI agent
  • Users asking about cities with non-English or ambiguous names, such as Chinese cities
  • Developers who want a simple, key-free weather lookup inside an agent workflow

Skip it if

  • Safety-critical decisions such as severe storm warnings or flight/marine operations, because the data comes from free third-party services with no guarantee of accuracy or timeliness
  • Environments where the agent must not make outbound internet requests, because the skill sends city names to external servers

Try asking

  • “What's the weather in Chengdu right now?”
  • “Will it rain in London tomorrow? Give me the forecast.”
  • “Compare the current temperature in New York and Shanghai.”
  • “Show me the weather in 上海 in metric units.”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Weather LookupInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    weather.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip weather.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip weather.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Give the city name plus country or region (for example 'Cambridge, UK') to avoid ambiguous matches.
  • Ask the agent to show the matched location and observation time so you can check them.
  • For non-English city names, providing the original script usually works best because wttr.in resolves them directly.
