What it does

Once installed, the agent can help with three US copyright takedown tasks: drafting a DMCA §512(c)(3) takedown notice to send to a hosting provider, triaging a takedown notice you received (deciding whether to comply, counter, engage, or ignore), or drafting a §512(g)(3) counter-notice. It walks through checks such as a fair-use analysis and a perjury/accuracy statement before producing output, and it routes uncertain cases to attorney review. It is designed to be used alongside a legal practice profile configured by the claude-for-legal ip-legal plugin, and it asks for setup first if that profile is missing.

Great for

  • Creators or rights holders who need to send a DMCA notice and want the required elements checked
  • People who received a takedown and need a structured view of their options before responding
  • Legal or compliance staff at a company handling copyright notices, working with an attorney

Skip it if

  • Casual users with no legal review: takedowns and counter-notices are sworn statements with perjury and litigation consequences, and the skill itself says counter-notices are the step before litigation
  • Non-US services or content: DMCA §512 is US federal law, and the skill notes that EU, UK, or other regimes may be the correct instrument instead
  • Fair-use-heavy or borderline cases: the skill stops and routes to attorney review when fair use is debatable or likely

Try asking

  • “Draft a DMCA takedown notice for my copyrighted photo that was posted on a website without permission”
  • “I received a takedown notice from YouTube about my video; help me triage my options”
  • “Draft a counter-notice for content that was removed after a DMCA claim I believe was a mistake”
  • “Run the DMCA takedown skill in send mode for a software copyright infringement”
Step-by-step guide: how to use DMCA Takedown DrafterInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the Apache-2.0 licence and an attribution note.

    takedown.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip takedown.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip takedown.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Complete the cold-start interview first so the skill has your approval matrix and practice profile; otherwise it will stop.
  • Have an attorney review any notice before sending, and especially before filing a counter-notice, since it consents to federal jurisdiction.
  • Say which matter the work relates to, or use practice-level, so outputs are saved to the right folder.
