What it does
Once installed, the agent can take a law clinic student's case notes and write a status summary tailored to one reader: a plain-language update for the client, an internal briefing for the supervising professor, or a formal status report in court caption format. The same facts are reframed for each audience, and the drafts are marked as AI-assisted so a student and supervisor review them before anything is sent or filed.
Great for
- Law clinic students who need to update clients regularly
- Supervising professors who want consistent internal case briefings
- Students preparing court-ordered status reports that will then be reviewed by a professor
Skip it if
- Sending client messages without human review: the skill itself says client updates are consequential and need supervision sign-off, and it does not send anything
- Filing with a court: it only drafts; caption and local-rule formats must be verified and a professor must review before filing
- Deciding how to deliver bad news or case weaknesses: the skill explicitly leaves that strategic judgment to the student and professor
Try asking
- “/legal-clinic:status client — write a plain-language update for my client about the hearing next week”
- “/legal-clinic:status internal — brief my professor on where the landlord case stands since our last check-in”
- “/legal-clinic:status court — draft a status report for the judge's order requiring an update before the conference”

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Keep the supervision settings and jurisdiction in CLAUDE.md up to date so the drafts follow your clinic's rules and local court format
- Always rewrite the 'Student's assessment' section yourself; the skill scaffolds it but should not write your judgment
- Strip all [AI-ASSISTED DRAFT] and [VERIFY] labels only after supervisor review, and check your jurisdiction's student practice rule for required sign-off language
