What it does

When you finish coding work and want it turned into a GitHub pull request, this skill tells the agent how to do that in a careful, repeatable way. It covers creating the PR, bringing it up to date with its base branch, editing its title and body, adding screenshots, checking CI and merge status, and responding to review comments. The agent re-checks repository state before each push or PR edit, and only reports a PR as merge-ready when GitHub confirms it; otherwise it reports the status as observed.

Great for

  • Developers who want an agent to open and maintain a PR using git and the GitHub CLI
  • Teams that want consistent PR bodies, checks reporting, and review-comment handling
  • Users who want the agent to wait for CI to go green only when they explicitly ask for it

Skip it if

  • Reviewing someone else's PR, since the skill is scoped to shipping your own work (the description says so explicitly)
  • Unfinished work that still needs design or implementation; the skill says that part belongs to other workflows first
  • Repositories where you do not want an agent running git push or gh pr create without oversight, because these are irreversible actions the skill performs

Try asking

  • “Create a pull request for the finished changes on this branch”
  • “Rebase this branch onto main, resolve conflicts, and open a PR”
  • “Address the open review comments on my PR”
  • “Monitor CI on this PR and fix failing checks until it is green”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Ship a Pull RequestInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 7 original files, the Apache-2.0 licence and an attribution note.

    shipping-a-pr.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip shipping-a-pr.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip shipping-a-pr.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Say explicitly whether you want a one-time status snapshot or for the agent to keep watching CI; the default is a snapshot that does not poll.
  • Let the agent work from a finished branch, since the skill does not cover designing or implementing the change.
  • Review the PR body and any pushes before approving, because the agent performs real pushes and PR edits on GitHub.
