What it does

This is a dispatcher for JetBrains' ThinkRail workflow. When asked to set up or onboard a project that has no spec graph yet, the agent checks whether specs exist and whether the repo has real code, then hands off to a matching follow-on skill (starting-a-new-project for an empty repo, importing-a-codebase for existing code). If specs already exist, it offers to review and fill gaps instead of redoing them.

Great for

  • Teams adopting ThinkRail who want a consistent way to create their first spec graph
  • Developers onboarding an existing repo into the ThinkRail spec-driven workflow

Skip it if

  • Ordinary feature work in a project that already has specs; the skill says not to use it there
  • Projects outside the ThinkRail app ecosystem, since the referenced sibling skills and spec tools are not included in this file

Try asking

  • “Set up this project so it has a spec graph”
  • “Onboard this repo into ThinkRail specs”
  • “Initialize specs for this codebase”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Setting up a projectInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the Apache-2.0 licence and an attribution note.

    setting-up-a-project.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip setting-up-a-project.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip setting-up-a-project.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Use it in the repo root so the agent can inspect the workspace before routing.
  • If specs already exist, accept the review offer only when you want gap-filling; otherwise decline and it stops.
  • Expect it to hand off to another skill rather than doing the full work itself; the sibling skills contain the actual steps.
