What it does

This is a router skill for a family of workflow skills from JetBrains' ThinkRail. When an agent gets a new request, it decides whether the work is project onboarding, pull request lifecycle work, or a change to product behavior (feature, behavior change, or bug fix), then hands off to the matching workflow skill. Requests that change no behavior, such as questions, explanations, typo or documentation edits, or renames, get no workflow at all.

Great for

  • Developers using the ThinkRail workflow family who want the agent to follow a consistent process
  • Teams that want behavior changes to go through design discussion before implementation
  • Maintainers adding new workflows to the family who need to understand the routing table

Skip it if

  • Anyone looking for a general-purpose coding skill: it only routes and does not perform the work itself, and it is useless outside the ThinkRail workflow family
  • Quick one-line edits or pure questions, which the skill explicitly excludes and which would only add friction

Try asking

  • “Start onboarding a new project from a raw idea so the agent sets up the workspace properly”
  • “Address the review comments on my open pull request and get the checks passing”
  • “Add a dark mode toggle to the app (routes to brainstorming before any code is written)”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Choosing a WorkflowInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the Apache-2.0 licence and an attribution note.

    choosing-a-workflow.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip choosing-a-workflow.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip choosing-a-workflow.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Install the full pi-thinkrail-workflow package, since this router points to sibling skills that do the actual work
  • Give a clear request that says whether it is a behavior change or a non-behavior edit, so the classification is quick
  • Expect a clarifying question when the request is ambiguous rather than a guessed route
