What it does
This skill gives an AI agent a long-lived notebook for a research project. Instead of forgetting each paper or idea after a single literature search, the agent stores papers, ideas, experiments and claims as linked pages in a research-wiki folder, and reuses them in later sessions. You can ask it to initialise the wiki, add a paper, query what is known, or check the wiki for problems. It is part of the larger ARIS research-automation toolkit and relies on a helper Python script that the skill expects to find in the project or ARIS repository.
Great for
- Researchers running a multi-month project who want past papers and failed ideas remembered across sessions
- Developers already using the ARIS research toolkit who want a structured project knowledge base
- Students building a field map of a topic and tracking how papers relate to each other
Skip it if
- Quick one-off literature searches, where a persistent wiki adds clutter rather than value
- Projects that cannot install the ARIS helper script (tools/research_wiki.py), since the skill hard-fails without it
- Users who expect the wiki to be automatically accurate: stored notes can carry errors that later sessions repeat, so they need human review
Try asking
- “Initialise a research wiki for this project”
- “Add this arXiv paper to the wiki and link it to my existing ideas”
- “Query the wiki for gaps in the field related to my current method”
- “Run a lint check on the research wiki and show stats”

Add it to your agent
Claude Code (all projects)
mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip research-wiki.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)
mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip research-wiki.zip -d .claude/skills/Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Run the init subcommand once per project before adding papers, so the folder structure and query_pack.md exist.
- Review generated notes and claims before relying on them, because the wiki persists whatever the agent writes.
- Keep the wiki inside the project directory under version control so you can audit or roll back changes.
