What it does

Once installed, the agent acts as a read-only guide to the adk-recipes repository itself. When someone asks how a CI workflow behaves, what a limit in the policy file means, who owns a path, what a bot does, or what a label means, it answers from the repo's committed files and cites the exact file and line. It is explicitly forbidden from editing files, committing, commenting, labelling or doing the task for the caller; requests to do work are answered with guidance and a pointer to the right skill or command.

Great for

  • Contributors to google/adk-recipes who want quick, cited answers about repo rules and CI
  • Maintainers or new admins who need to trace where a policy key is used or why a rule exists
  • Anyone who wants a read-only assistant that will not change their repository

Skip it if

  • Preparing, writing or validating a recipe on your own machine, since the skill only explains the process and points to other skills (it cannot see your working tree or PR checks)
  • ADK API usage questions, which the skill says belong to the google-agents-cli-* skills
  • Relying on it as authoritative when docs disagree with the filesystem, because the skill itself warns that prose can go stale and may report contradictions instead of a single answer

Try asking

  • “Why does the stale-bot close issues after a set number of days, and which file defines that?”
  • “Who is the CODEOWNER for the contrib/ directory?”
  • “What does the 'needs-review' label mean in this repo?”
  • “Which workflows run on pull requests, and what does the recipe canary check?”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Repo OracleInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 4 original files, the Apache-2.0 licence and an attribution note.

    repo-oracle.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip repo-oracle.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip repo-oracle.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Ask specific governance questions, such as naming a file or config key, to get tighter cited answers.
  • Expect refusals for requests that need your own branch or screen; run the command the skill names yourself.
  • If an answer reports a disagreement between docs and the filesystem, check the cited files directly before acting.
