What it does

This skill gives an AI agent a set of filing rules for a personal knowledge base (a 'brain' of markdown pages). When asked to create a new page, the agent works out the page's main subject and places it in the matching folder, such as people, companies, concepts, meetings, or media, instead of sorting by file type or where it came from. It also checks for existing pages and suggests cross-links. It only gives advice on placement; it does not change anything itself.

Great for

  • Developers maintaining a gbrain-style markdown knowledge base who want consistent file placement
  • Teams building agent-driven note systems who need a shared filing convention
  • Users who keep getting new notes filed in the wrong folder

Skip it if

  • People who don't use the gbrain knowledge base; the folder rules are specific to that system and won't apply elsewhere
  • Anyone expecting the skill to write or move files itself, since the file declares mutating: false and only advises
  • Situations needing a live check of the brain, since the skill falls back to offline rules if the brain is unreachable and then placement may be less accurate

Try asking

  • “Where does this go? I have notes from a call with Acme Corp's CTO.”
  • “Create new page for the concept of event sourcing. Which directory should it be in?”
  • “Filing rules for a PDF research paper I want to add to the brain.”
  • “Which directory should I use for a podcast episode transcript?”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Repo Architecture Filing RulesInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    repo-architecture.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip repo-architecture.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip repo-architecture.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Describe the page's main subject clearly, since the skill decides placement from that rather than from file format or source.
  • Check the answer against the full filing rules file if the brain is unreachable, because the skill will say when placement came from the rules rather than the live brain.
  • Confirm the slug with the user when the agent reports page_not_found before filing.
