What it does

When installed, the agent answers questions by searching a personal knowledge base called a 'brain' (the gbrain project) rather than relying on general knowledge. It runs keyword and semantic searches, reads the top matching pages, and replies with citations to specific page slugs, flags gaps where the brain has no information, and notes conflicting or stale sources. It also prefers memory-specific tools such as recall, entity and synthesize when a server provides them.

Great for

  • People who already keep notes or contacts in a gbrain knowledge base and want an agent to answer questions from them
  • Developers building or testing a gbrain-connected agent setup
  • Users who want answers traceable to specific saved pages rather than guesses

Skip it if

  • Users without a gbrain brain set up: the skill only queries an existing brain and has nothing to search otherwise
  • Questions needing live or current web information, since the skill only reads the brain's stored content
  • Situations where the brain contains sensitive records that should not be surfaced to the agent without review

Try asking

  • “What do we know about the Q3 pricing project?”
  • “Who is Jane Doe and who has she worked with?”
  • “Search for notes on the vendor contract from September”
  • “What happened with the product launch last month?”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Brain Query SkillInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    query.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip query.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip query.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Ask about a specific name or topic; the skill works best with concrete terms that match saved pages.
  • If the agent reports degraded search, enable embeddings in gbrain before concluding information is missing.
  • Check that the brain has the relevant sources connected, since results only cover what was saved into it.
