What it does

This skill guides an AI assistant through producing a Privacy Impact Assessment (PIA), a structured review of what personal data a new product feature collects, why, how long it is kept, who can see it, and what could go wrong. It first checks whether a PIA is actually required under your team's house rules and applicable privacy laws, then asks the product team intake questions (or reads a product requirements document if provided). It checks for prior related work in your outputs folder, writes the assessment using your team's own template, and ends with a list of conditions and named owners routed for sign-off.

Great for

  • In-house privacy or legal teams reviewing new product features
  • Product managers preparing for a privacy review before launch
  • Legal professionals who want a first draft PIA they will then verify and edit

Skip it if

  • Final legal sign-off: the skill's output is a draft that a qualified lawyer must review, because the skill itself says it relies on research that may be incomplete or out of date
  • Processing outside the jurisdiction configured for your team, since the skill warns its analysis may not apply as written in that case
  • Situations where the legal research tool returns thin results: the skill itself says it may need to fall back to web search, which requires checking sources manually

Try asking

  • “/privacy-legal:pia-generation "Location sharing feature"”
  • “/privacy-legal:pia-generation with a PRD link to draft a PIA for a new product”
  • “Write a PIA for our new customer analytics dashboard”
  • “Do we need a privacy impact assessment for this new biometric login?”

No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Load your team's seed PIA into the configuration CLAUDE.md first, so the output matches your house format rather than a generic one.
  • Run use-case triage before generating a PIA, so prior risk ratings carry over as the starting point.
  • Verify every cited statute, regulator guidance, and trigger threshold against a primary source before relying on the draft, especially where the skill flags web-search results.
