What it does

Once installed, the agent can take lab material you provide (photos, audio transcripts, typed notes, or local files) and turn it into a standardized Markdown experiment log with YAML metadata. It asks you to confirm unclear details such as temperatures or sample numbers instead of guessing, generates experiment and sample batch IDs, and archives the raw attachments into a dated folder. It can optionally write into an Obsidian vault and maintain index, anomaly and equipment-tracking pages.

Great for

  • Researchers who keep lab notes as photos or voice memos and want consistent records
  • Lab groups that want a shared naming scheme for experiments, equipment and sample batches
  • Users of Obsidian who want Dataview-based experiment dashboards

Skip it if

  • Users who need a ready-made tool without customizing folder names and codes, since the scheme is built around Chinese-language conventions and a specific lab's equipment codes
  • Anyone handling confidential or regulated data who has not reviewed where files are sent, because Feishu integration reads group messages and attachments over the network

Try asking

  • “Turn these photos of my corrosion immersion experiment into a standard experiment log and archive the originals”
  • “Read the notes folder at my local path and create experiment logs with proper IDs”
  • “Pull the latest attachments from our Feishu lab group and log today's electrochemical CV tests”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Experiment Log StandardizerInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 11 original files, the Apache-2.0 licence and an attribution note.

    nature-experiment-log.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip nature-experiment-log.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip nature-experiment-log.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Specify the output folder explicitly; the skill will not choose a path on its own and will return Markdown first if none is given
  • Define your own system codes and equipment codes before logging so IDs stay consistent across experiments
  • Review the generated log against the original photos, especially numbers, since the skill relies on vision extraction
