What it does
This skill teaches an AI agent how to install, configure, upgrade, and troubleshoot MemOS, a memory plugin for the OpenClaw agent platform. Once set up, the plugin automatically saves conversations to a local SQLite database and brings back relevant past context in later sessions, so the agent does not start from zero each time. It also offers a local web Memory Viewer for browsing stored memories, tasks, and skills.
Great for
- Developers who run OpenClaw agents and want persistent memory kept on their own machine
- Users who want local-only memory with no cloud account or registration
- Users who are already using OpenClaw and need help upgrading or fixing the memory plugin
Skip it if
- Users who do not run OpenClaw: the skill is written for that platform and its configuration files. Installing it adds system changes with no benefit.
- Anyone who does not want the agent to run install scripts unattended: the skill tells the agent to download and execute remote scripts (curl ... | bash, irm ... | iex) and to edit ~/.openclaw/openclaw.json without asking, which can change system state in ways you may not review.
- Temporary or one-off tasks where long-term memory is unnecessary
Try asking
- “Install MemOS so my OpenClaw agent remembers our conversations”
- “My memory plugin stopped working, can you troubleshoot it?”
- “Upgrade MemOS to the latest version”
- “Set up team sharing for memory across my agents”

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Review the install steps before loading the skill, since it grants the agent permission to run commands and modify ~/.openclaw/ without per-step confirmation.
- Choose the default local embedding model at the Step 1.5 prompt if you want no external API calls; the Memory Viewer runs only on 127.0.0.1.
- After installation, check ~/.openclaw/memos-local/memos.db and the config file to confirm what was changed.
