What it does

This skill teaches an AI agent to inspect a GBrain personal knowledge base (a store of markdown pages and their links) for quality problems such as stale pages, orphan pages with no inbound links, dead links, missing cross-references and citation format errors, then report counts per category with a fix for each. It can also run extraction commands that build a link graph and timeline from markdown, and a preview-then-apply remediation path that runs gbrain commands to push the brain's health score toward a target. It is designed for maintaining an existing GBrain install rather than general writing.

Great for

  • Developers who run a GBrain knowledge base and want periodic cleanup of links and stale content
  • Maintainers checking why the brain's health score is stuck below a target
  • Users who want a dimension-by-dimension audit of their brain's quality

Skip it if

  • People without a GBrain installation, since the skill depends on gbrain commands and its database (the commands would fail or do nothing useful)
  • Unattended use on a brain whose write ownership is contested, because the skill itself says ownership repairs need separate approval and should be reported, not forced
  • Running the remediation with a high --max-usd cap without reviewing the plan, since it can trigger paid steps and modify pages

Try asking

  • “Check my brain health and tell me which pages are stale or orphaned”
  • “Run maintenance on my brain and show counts for each health dimension”
  • “Extract links and timeline entries from my markdown notes folder”
  • “Preview a plan to get my brain to 90/100 before applying any repairs”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Brain Health MaintenanceInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    maintain.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip maintain.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip maintain.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Always run the --remediation-plan preview first and review the repair steps and cost before approving a plan_hash
  • Start with the manual per-dimension walk if you want to inspect changes rather than let the automatic path apply them
  • Set a conservative --max-usd value and keep backups of your brain folder before running extraction or remediation
