What it does
When you share a paper link, PDF, or title, the agent writes a plain-language explanation of what the paper studies, what the authors contributed, and what the evidence does and does not show. It uses everyday examples and sometimes ASCII diagrams, and saves the result as a Markdown note (by default under ~/Context/) along with a structured research record. The skill also includes a validation script that checks the note's format and fields.
Great for
- Non-specialists who want to understand a research paper's conclusions and their limits
- Students preparing to explain a paper to others in their own words
- People who keep reading notes in Emacs/Denote and want consistent note formatting
Skip it if
- Formal peer review or judging a paper's quality, since the skill is aimed at explanation rather than critique
- Reproducing experiments or extracting benchmark tables, which the skill explicitly excludes
- Literature surveys across many papers, which fall outside its scope
Try asking
- “Explain this arXiv paper to me as if I have no background in the field: https://arxiv.org/abs/...”
- “Read this PDF and tell me what the authors contributed and what the evidence does not establish”
- “Help me understand the main research question of this paper and save a Markdown note”
- “Explain this paper orally only, without saving a file”

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- State your reader's background if it differs from a general adult audience, since the skill defers to your specification
- Ask for an oral explanation only if you do not want a saved file; the default writes a note to ~/Context/
- Review the saved note yourself, because the validator checks format and records, not whether the text is actually easy to understand
