What it does

Once installed, the agent analyses a profession, role, product, or argument by identifying the handful of constraints that actually define it. It sorts each one as a hard world limit, a soft rule with a cost for breaking it, or a self-imposed belief that could be redefined, then shows how that set of limits narrows what is possible and explains why the thing behaves as it does. It writes the result as a Chinese prose essay and saves it as a Markdown file. It does not run scripts or fetch anything from the internet.

Great for

  • People trying to understand why a profession, company team, or industry behaves the way it does
  • Anyone whose debate keeps stalling because each side is actually working from different default assumptions
  • Readers who want a structured way to tell real barriers from outdated habits or folk wisdom

Skip it if

  • Quick factual lookups or step-by-step how-to tasks, since the output is a long reflective essay (it is not useful there)
  • Breaking down a single book or a single concept in depth, which other skills handle better according to the file's own routing notes
  • Anyone expecting a ready-made plan to beat the constraints; the skill deliberately keeps the diagnosis separate from advice and gives at most one line on loosening a constraint

Try asking

  • “Use ljg-constraint to find the real constraints that define an investment manager's role and explain their behaviour”
  • “Use ljg-constraint to explain why product and growth teams keep arguing”
  • “Use ljg-constraint to tell whether the belief that this industry must rely on heavy sales is a hard constraint or an old interpretation”
  • “Use ljg-constraint to map the hard, soft and self-imposed constraints on a small restaurant business”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Constraint MapperInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    ljg-constraint.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip ljg-constraint.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip ljg-constraint.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • The skill's instructions are written in Chinese and its output is intended as Chinese prose, so request the analysis in Chinese for the intended style and structure
  • Give a domain together with its goal and any dispute, because the skill maps constraints against a clearly stated problem
  • Ask for the diagnosis first and treat any suggested way to loosen a constraint as a secondary note
