What it does

This is an interactive tutor that guides an AI agent through a 14-lesson reverse engineering course on reading compiled programs: file formats, disassembly, control flow, decompiling to pseudocode, and similar topics. Each session covers one lesson: the agent asks prediction questions, has you run lab commands, checks your observed output, and records progress in a markdown file in your working directory. It is limited to programs you built or are authorized to analyze, and it declines protection bypass, licence checks, DRM, and anti-cheat work.

Great for

  • Students learning low-level programming and binary formats who want structured, checkpointed practice
  • Developers who want to understand how compilers and linkers produce the binaries they ship
  • Learners who prefer a guided course that tracks progress across sessions

Skip it if

  • Analyzing commercial software, games, or protected binaries it does not own, because the skill itself forbids this and it would be out of scope
  • Quick one-off disassembly help, since the skill is designed as a full sequential course rather than an ad hoc tool

Try asking

  • “Start the Reverse Engineering path from the beginning”
  • “Resume the reverse engineering course where I left off”
  • “Walk me through Lesson 33 on disassembly and control flow”
  • “Quiz me on the evidence and confidence lesson before I mark it done”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Learn Reverse EngineeringInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    learn-reverse-engineering.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip learn-reverse-engineering.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip learn-reverse-engineering.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Confirm up front that every binary you analyze is one you compiled yourself, since the route requires this and the tutor will check it
  • Keep the generated REVERSE-ENGINEERING-LEARNING.md file in the folder you start from so progress is preserved between sessions
  • Run the lab commands yourself and paste the real output back, because the checkpoints require observed results rather than a fluent explanation
