What it does

This is a reference framework for an AI assistant helping a legal team run a workplace or corporate internal investigation. Once installed, the assistant intake-checks whether the matter is attorney-directed, opens a structured investigation log, builds a checklist of sources to gather, and helps process documents, answer questions against the log, draft a memo, and produce audience summaries. It also flags legal issues such as union representation (Weingarten) and public-employer compelled statements (Garrity) before interviews begin.

Great for

  • In-house or outside employment counsel who want a structured workflow for investigations
  • Legal ops or HR-legal teams standardising how investigation files are organised and labelled
  • Developers studying how a multi-command legal plugin shares one reference skill across commands

Skip it if

  • Anyone conducting an investigation without attorney direction: the skill itself warns that its privilege labelling may be misleading in that case, and privilege analysis is a legal judgement, not something a tool can settle.
  • Non-lawyers seeking legal advice on their own workplace complaint: the skill is written for counsel and is not invoked directly, so it will not answer a personal legal question on its own.

Try asking

  • “Open an investigation into a harassment complaint against a regional manager”
  • “Add these five interview notes and expense records to the active investigation log”
  • “Query the log: which witnesses have not yet been interviewed?”
  • “Draft the privileged investigation memo from the current log entries”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Internal Investigation FrameworkInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the Apache-2.0 licence and an attribution note.

    internal-investigation.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip internal-investigation.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip internal-investigation.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Answer the attorney-directed and union/public-employer questions at intake before any interview; the skill says not to interview until protocols are adjusted.
  • Treat the privilege header as a label, not a guarantee; have the supervising attorney confirm privilege status before files are created or shared.
  • Keep distribution of generated logs and memos tightly scoped, since forwarding outside the privilege circle can waive privilege over the whole investigation.
