What it does
This skill teaches an AI agent to drive a command-line tool for Inkscape, a free vector graphics editor. Instead of asking you to click through the app, the agent can create documents, add shapes, text, layers, gradients and transforms, apply colours, and export PNG, SVG or PDF files, all through commands it runs in a terminal. Progress is saved in a JSON project file with undo and redo support.
Great for
- Designers who want an agent to build or adjust SVG graphics such as title cards, thumbnails or simple illustrations
- Developers automating repeatable vector asset generation from scripts or pipelines
- Users comfortable with a terminal who want an agent to batch-export graphics to PNG or PDF
Skip it if
- People who need fully manual, pixel-level artwork; the commands are structured operations and the agent may need several iterations to reach a look you want
- Users without Inkscape installed or who cannot install Python packages, since the tool will not work without them
- Sensitive or production files without backups, because the agent writes and overwrites project and export files on your disk
Try asking
- “Create a new 1920x1080 project and add a title card with wrapped text and a blue gradient background”
- “Add three rectangles to layer 2, set their fill colours to brand hex values, then export the project as PNG”
- “Export my current Inkscape project to PDF, overwriting the existing file”
- “Show the document info and list all shapes in my project file so I can review what the agent built”

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Ask the agent to keep a backup copy of your project JSON or original SVG before it exports or overwrites files
- Use the --json flag when you want the agent to read structured output, and check the saved project after each major change
- For long text, ask for wrapped text boxes with a box width rather than manual line breaks, as the skill recommends
