What it does

When you ask for an image, texture, icon, sprite or mockup, the agent sends your description to an AI image service (OpenAI's gpt-image-2 or Google Gemini) and saves the returned picture into your project folder. If no API key is set up yet, it walks you through getting one and storing it in your environment.

Great for

  • Developers who need placeholder or game assets like textures and sprites quickly
  • Designers iterating on mockups or icon ideas inside an agent workflow
  • Anyone with an OpenAI or Google AI Studio account who wants images without leaving the chat

Skip it if

  • People without an API key or budget: OpenAI images are paid per image and the requests will fail without a key
  • Work that needs guaranteed licensing or brand-safe output, since the skill does not address image rights or review generated content
  • Sensitive projects where prompts should not leave your machine, because prompts and keys are sent to third-party servers

Try asking

  • “Generate a seamless tileable grass texture for my 2D game and save it in assets/textures”
  • “Make a 1024x1536 vertical poster illustration of a mountain lake at dawn”
  • “Create five app icon variations in a flat style and save them to images/icons”
  • “Generate a sprite sheet of a pixel-art knight in idle pose”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Generate ImageInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    generate-image.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip generate-image.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip generate-image.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Store keys in environment variables rather than pasting them into chat; the skill offers to persist them to your shell profile, so review that change.
  • Specify size and quality explicitly (for example, quality low for quick drafts) to control per-image cost with OpenAI.
  • Name the output folder you want so the agent saves files where your project expects them.
