What it does

This is a shared tracking framework for a legal and compliance plugin. Once installed, the agent keeps a YAML log of gaps between regulatory requirements and internal policies, with status, due dates and owners, and produces status reports showing what is overdue, due soon, or under watch. It is loaded by the gaps and comments commands rather than used directly, and it can send Slack DMs to gap owners, but only after showing the user the exact message and getting an explicit yes each time.

Great for

  • In-house legal or compliance teams that track regulatory policy gaps and want a structured tracker
  • Developers building or extending the claude-for-legal regulatory plugin
  • Counsel who want flagged gaps routed to named owners with a confirmation step before any message is sent

Skip it if

  • Anyone wanting a standalone gap tracker outside this plugin; it is a reference file that other skills load and does not work on its own
  • Automated notifications at scale: each Slack send requires per-message confirmation by design, and the skill flags that unverified citations may be wrong, so it is unsuitable where unattended alerts are needed
  • Final legal conclusions on whether a rule is in force; the skill itself says unverified rules must be checked before escalation

Try asking

  • “Show me all open regulatory gaps grouped by overdue, due soon, and watch items”
  • “Ingest the gaps found by the policy-diff run and add them to the tracker without duplicates”
  • “Draft a Slack reminder to the owner of GAP-004 and show me the preview before sending”
  • “Mark GAP-002 as risk-accepted and record the resolution”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Regulatory Gap TrackerInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 3 original files, the Apache-2.0 licence and an attribution note.

    gap-surfacer.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip gap-surfacer.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip gap-surfacer.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Leave owner_slack empty for any owner who should not receive messages; notifications are on by default otherwise.
  • Always read the citation warning before confirming a Slack send, since the skill states its own citations are unverified.
  • Keep gap_type and status_verified accurate so unverified rules land in the watch bucket rather than appearing as overdue.
