What it does

When an AI agent's routing file (RESOLVER.md or AGENTS.md) becomes too long from listing every skill on its own row, this skill rewrites it into a smaller set of grouped entries, one per functional area, each listing its sub-skills in a dispatcher clause. The agent then picks the area first and opens that area's skill to find the specific sub-skill, which saves context space for real work. It edits local routing files rather than calling outside services.

Great for

  • Developers maintaining an agent setup with a large number of installed skills (around 200 or more)
  • People whose AGENTS.md or RESOLVER.md is consuming a lot of the agent's context budget

Skip it if

  • Small setups with only a handful of skills, where the routing file is already short and compression adds complexity
  • Users who have not reviewed the rewritten routing file, since the skill edits files directly and a poorly grouped area could misroute requests

Try asking

  • “Compress my resolver, it has grown too big”
  • “AGENTS.md is too large, slim it down using functional areas”
  • “Shrink my routing table so the agent has more context left”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Functional-Area ResolverInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    functional-area-resolver.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip functional-area-resolver.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip functional-area-resolver.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Review the rewritten routing file and confirm each sub-skill appears in a dispatcher clause before relying on it
  • Keep a backup of the original RESOLVER.md or AGENTS.md so you can revert if routing quality drops
  • The evaluation figures in the file come from the author's own tests on Anthropic models only, so test the result on your own agent and models
